Whispering Pines Senior Center is getting an upgrade after the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners approved grant for infrastructure improvements at the Tijeras facility.
The financial resolution accepts a one-time emergency grant of $328,650 from the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department for infrastructure improvements at the Whispering Pines Senior Center in the East Mountains.
The funding will support upgrades to the center’s fire suppression systems.
“Whispering Pines is a lifeline for seniors in the East Mountains,” Commission Chair Eric Olivas said. “This funding ensures we can keep the center safe, open and fully operational for the community that depends on it.”
In 2024, the county committed to moving forward with baseline improvements to the tank system and fire suppression system to ensure the safe, continued operation of the senior center.
