The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is marking two decades of celebrating the spirit of Albuquerque with its new exhibit, “20 Years of Joy!”
According to a press release from the City of Albuquerque, the exhibition honors the museum’s 20th anniversary by “highlighting the creativity, curiosity and wonder that have made it a local treasure.”
Balloon Museum Director Nan Masland describes the exhibit as a celebration of the museum’s history and a vision for its future.
“The Balloon Museum was born out of innovation, inspires the kid in all of us, and imagines a bright future,” Masland said. “Not only is this exhibit a jubilant celebration of our history, it also provides an exciting vision for what’s next at the Balloon Museum.”
“20 Years of Joy!” is both an experiential exhibit and an art installation, showcasing memorabilia from the Anderson family collection, balloon envelopes and staff selections from the Soukup & Thomas Collection.
A public opening celebration, “A Joyful Morning,” will be held on Sunday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature radio-controlled balloon flights, virtual reality balloon rides, live music and refreshments. Admission is free.
“This new exhibit honors the Balloon Museum’s beginnings while inspiring future generations to keep ballooning thriving,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “It’s a festive reminder that the ballooning spirit soars here year-round.”
The exhibit was created with contributions from Double T Design, Wonder + Light, and Five Ton Monkey.
