The East Mountain Historical Society has announced a public meeting to discuss the restoration of the historic Campo Stone House and plans for a community cultural and educational center. The meeting is set for June 14 at 2 p.m. at the Cañón De Carnué Land Grant Hall.
According to the East Mountain Historical Society, the Stone House property holds significant regional importance due to its historical use, involvement of influential families in 20th-century agrarian culture, proximity to a 14th-century Pueblo with artifacts and location near Tijeras Canyon. This canyon served as a route for the Long Walk and a thoroughfare during the Civil War.
Upon restoration, the Stone House will function as a Visitor Center, house the EMHS archives and provide an event space for historical and cultural programs. The Society will offer fundraising and volunteer opportunities for individuals and businesses to support the restoration.
The public is invited to attend the meeting to learn about the history of the site, challenges of historic preservation, new architectural plans, and fundraising efforts. Questions and comments from the community are encouraged.
For questions about this event, contact president@eastmountainhistory.org or call 925-315-1672.
The Stone House is located on Highway 14 in San Antonio and is currently closed to the public during restoration.
