A flatbed truck carrying debris from Los Alamos National Labs overturned on U.S. 84/285 outside Santa Fe earlier this month prompting State Police and a response team from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to close the roadway and test for contamination.
According to a news release from the NNSA’s Los Alamos Office, a contractor transporting debris from Los Alamos to Texas was carrying four “super sacks,” large flexible containers commonly used for transporting and storing bulk materials.
None of the bags were breached, the release stated, though a response team was dispatched to test for contamination before the scene and roadway were reopened.
”Tests determined that the debris did not contain radioactive materials above background. Like all waste that leaves the Lab site, the debris was tested for contamination prior to departing Laboratory property,” the office stated.
