The East Mountain Celebration returns Sunday, Sept. 22, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Vista Grande Community Center at 15 La Madera Rd. in Sandia Park. This year’s event will spotlight “Fire Safety and Awareness” and “First Responder Appreciation,” offering a day filled with family-friendly activities that celebrate community safety and honor the vital contributions of first responders.
Event Highlights:
- Live Entertainment: Enjoy live music from Cynical Bird and dance performances by On Point Dance Studio, bringing energy and excitement to the day.
- Car Show: The annual car show, presented by the Village of Tijeras, will feature a variety of classic and unique vehicles.
- Outstanding Citizen Awards: Honoring local heroes for their significant contributions to the community.
- Fire Safety Activities: Bernalillo County Fire & Rescue will host an array of fire safety activities, including an inflatable fire safety house, appearances by Sparky the fire mascot, a fire extinguisher demonstration, a fire safety talk, and fire trucks displayed in the car show.
- Vendor Booths: Explore a wide range of artisan vendors, enjoy food trucks and relax in the beer garden. Information booths will also be available, including those from Bernalillo County departments, the East Mountain Wildlife Protection Association, and Yucca, a climate change organization.
- Public Art: Participate in a real-time community art project facilitated by a local East Mountain mosaic artist.
Parking and Transportation:
Free parking is available with shuttle service from East Mountain High School (a short walk) and San Antonio Elementary School.
“The East Mountain Celebration continues to be a cherished tradition,” said District 5 Commissioner Eric Olivas. “This year’s focus on fire safety and first responders reflects the community’s deep appreciation for those who protect and serve.”
