About 30 miles east of Albuquerque, Sandia Peak Ski Area opened Nov. 9, after being revived by three feet of snow from the recent blizzard.

The ski area is planned to officially open in mid-December each Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 300-acre ski slopes feature 35 trails and four lifts. Although its opening was delayed last year, this year’s winter storm helped it get ahead and take advantage of the plentiful snow.

A social media post from Sandia Peak Ski Area said the early opening weekend was a big success but the mountain is now temporarily closed until conditions permit.

“A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our opening weekend. This weekend marked a historic start to the 24/25 winter season,” the post said. “Thank you to everyone who joined the celebration and to our incredible team for their hard work in making it possible.”

Once open for the season, lift tickets start at $55 and can be purchased at Sandia’s website

The Sandia Peak Ski area dates back to 1936. Originally known as The Albuquerque Ski Club, it has become a staple regional tourist attraction.
