The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to several crashes on Interstate 40 in the East Mountains on Jan. 7.

Authorities attribute the incidents to the dangerous winter driving conditions east New Mexico is experiencing.

Lane closures included:

  • Mile Marker 179- east of Zuzax: left lane closed on I-40 eastbound.
  • Mile Marker 181- near Sedillo Hill: two eastbound right lane closures on I-40.

Caution is heavily advised when driving through these areas.

Due to weather conditions, the Town of Edgewood announced its offices will be closed on Jan. 8.

East Mountain Schools were on a two-hour delay Tuesday due to “icy roads and challenging driving conditions.”

The delay was in effect for A. Montoya Elementary, San Antonio Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School and Manzano High students in the East Mountains.

Zero-hour activities, special education preschool classes, therapies and CEC classes were canceled for Manzano High students.
