The Museum of Encaustic Art, founded in 2005 by Doug and Adrienne Mehrens, is set to reopen to the public on April 4th and will remain open through December. Originally established in Los Cerrillos as Doug Mehrens’ personal studio, the museum moved to Santa Fe before returning to its original location following a pandemic-induced closure.
Located at 18 County Road 55a, General Goodwin Road in Cerrillos, the museum will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 pm, excluding holidays. Admission is $10.
The reopening will feature a new viewing of the permanent collection’s rotated encaustic and wax artwork, showcasing artists across America and beyond. The museum highlights encaustic, an ancient art form made from honeybee wax and resin, and also includes cold wax, water-based wax, and petroleum-based wax.
Celebrating its 20th year, the Museum of Encaustic Art, a 501c3 organization, claims to house America’s largest and most extensive encaustic art collection. The museum can be contacted at Mehrens@eainm.com or 505-424-6487. Additional information is available at eainm.com.
