Cibola Arts Gallery celebrated its 30th anniversary this month, marking three decades of artistic collaboration and community involvement. Founded by Mary Shultz and a dozen local artists, the gallery has operated as an artist-run cooperative since its inception.
Over 50 artists have contributed to the gallery over the years, reflecting Mountainair’s evolving culture.
“Cibola Arts Gallery has not only enriched the cultural life of Mountainair but has also played an important role in supporting the local economy, attracting visitors, and helping to shape the town’s identity as a vibrant center for the arts,” Mountainair Mayor Peter Nieto said. “Here’s to 30 years of inspiration, dedication, and creativity, and to many more successful years to come.”
The gallery recently celebrated its anniversary and the opening of its new show, “It’s Been 30 Bloomin’ Years,” with a reception on April 12. The 30th-anniversary celebration was hosted by gallery owners Ray and Elaine Darnell and was attended by artists and art enthusiasts from throughout New Mexico.
