On Christmas Eve in 2014, a family member returning home from church found Idali Reyes’ body dead in her South Valley home.

Two suspects were arrested shortly thereafter but a third, Jesus Alberto Chacon Morales, was never located.

But that all changed Wednesday afternoon when the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department announced that Chacon Morales had been booked into the Downtown prisoner transport unit on his nine-plus year warrant for an open count of murder and other charges.

According to BCSO, “through the persistent efforts of law enforcement and the cooperation of international authorities, Chacon Morales was located and extradited back to Albuquerque by the U.S. Marshals on March 6, 2024, after being on the run for over nine years.”

Court records show that Chacon Morales was being held on a no bond hold pending arraignment. The District Attorney’s has office filed a motion to keep the suspect in detention pending trial.
