Multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency personnel are still working to clear the road after a truck carrying propane rolled over on N.M. 217 at milepost 3.
On Friday morning, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies and New Mexico State Police officers arrived at the scene to find an overturned propane truck actively leaking propane and two injured occupants.

Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue reported that both occupants of the truck were ejected during the crash and were taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital with serious injuries that were not life-threatening. BCSO reported that a propane company successfully removed about half of the leaking fuel, but that the remaining propane needs to be burned before the truck can be moved from the road.
BCFR and BCSO said that the north and southbound lanes of N.M. 217 between Gonzales and Ally Rd. will be closed with barricades in place until the remaining 1,800 gallons of propane have burned. Due to the complexity of the hazardous materials leak and the severity of the occupants’ injuries, the scene is currently under investigation by State Police.
No exact cause for the crash has been released.
