When a big summer holiday comes during the middle of the week, lots of local government services we take for granted change their hours or close.

So will trash be picked up? Can I go to the library to beat the heat? Are city pools open? The answer, according to the City of Albuquerque, is yes, no, and yes…but.

Curious what you can and can’t do on Independence Day in the Duke City? Here’s a partial list.

What’s closed on Thursday, July 4?

Buses, animal shelters except for the admissions desk and reclaims, City offices, community and child development centers, libraries, senior meal sites, and youth summer meals are closed in observance of Independence Day. See below for a complete list and details.

ABQ RIDE & Sun Van

No bus service July 4

But ABQ RIDE Customer Service is open 365 days a year and will be available to answer your calls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 4. The Alvarado Transportation Center lobby will be closed to the public. Regular bus service resumes Friday, July 5.
