About a hundred protesters gathered in Tiguex Park Sunday morning to urge leaders — specifically Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris — to stop sending weapons to Israel for its war against Hamas.
The protest with the message “Not Another Bomb” was part of the Uncommitted National Movement’s Day of Action ahead of the Democratic National Convention, which starts today. According to a news release, 85 cities across the country held similar rallies.
“In March 2024, the New Mexico State Democratic Party overwhelmingly passed a ceasefire resolution consistent with the vast majority of Democrats nationwide and the majority of Americans overall,” said Mitchell Freedman, a Jewish American and member of the Democratic Party, in the release. “Yet, what has been clear is the Netanyahu government has not operated in good faith toward peace efforts and has shown no honest interest in seeking the release of all the hostages Hamas holds and those Israel continues to hold. The only true leverage the United States has is to withhold further arms shipments and money to the Israeli government.”
