Drivers who normally go through the Big-I Interchange at night will need to make changes through Sunday and Monday.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is conducting inspections of bridges that link I-25 and I-40. The work will require the closure of one bridge at 9 p.m. each night, through 5 the next morning.

The ramp from southbound I-25 to westbound I-40 will close Friday night.

Eastbound I-40 to northbound I-25 will close Saturday night.

The ramp from southbound I-25 to eastbound I-40 will close Sunday night.

Detour information for each closure is available here. The NMDOT is asking motorists to anticipate heavy travel delays, plan ahead, and follow posted signage.

The bridge inspections are not part of the ongoing I-25 Improved project, which includes design and construction of the roadway and several bridges between Comanche Road and Montgomery Boulevard.

That project is expected to last through spring 2027.

The NMDOT has the following updates on I-25 Improved:

The two right lanes on eastbound Montaño Road will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night from March 17 through March 22 as crews install temporary concrete and adjust lane striping in the area of southbound I-25/Pan American Frontage Road.

Comanche Road at I-25 will be closed nightly as early as Monday, whil crews perform utility work in the area. Traffic will be detoured via Candelaria Road and Montgomery Boulevard. The closures will be from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and are expected to last through April 7.

Crews are continuing work on the southbound Pan American Frontage Road and have temporarily closed access to Yale Boulevard and one business driveway to work on realignment of the frontage road. Lane shifts are in place during this work.

Drivers can reach the businesses by turning right on Comanche Road, by using Alexander Boulevard, or by turning on Midtown Road. These impacts began in early March and will remain in place through early May.

Crews paved the outside lane on northbound I-25 this past week and are now paving the outside lane of southbound I-25 to prepare to shift lanes. As early as mid-April, crews anticipate shifting travel to the outside lanes so reconstruction can begin on the inside lanes.

Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
