Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to correct that Estancia Mayor Nathan Dial previously said the town had 4-5 days’ worth of water.

The Town of Estancia told residents this week that the town well is running low, and urged residents to take steps to conserve water.

In a Facebook post, town officials said water for watering parks is running low because they are trying to save water for resident usage.

Estancia Mayor Nathan Dial emphasized the urgency of conserving water and said the town has limited water resources.

“Water levels have been going down,” he said. “As far as storage tanks within the town, we probably have 4-5 days’ worth of water.”

The mayor said the tanks are still not full, but once the tanks are full, the town will tell residents they no longer need to conserve water. Dial also said that hopefully, the town will get approvals to build another well in the near future.

“So as of right now the town is okay, but hopefully next year we will be approved to drill another well,” he said. “Once you start having well problems, you’re always gonna have well problems.”
