Walmart Pharmacy recently announced the expansion of its delivery services nationwide, including the Walmart Supercenter in Edgewood.

Same-day pharmacy delivery is a more convenient and faster service that allows customers to receive prescription medications and groceries directly to their homes.

“Pharmacy delivery at Walmart allows customers to combine prescription medications with groceries or general merchandise into a single order, delivered in as little as 30 minutes,” said Walmart Public Relations Coordinator Savannah Willingham.

The service is available through Walmart’s website and app and at the Edgewood location (66 NM-344) as part of its national rollout.

There is no need to purchase additional groceries or merchandise. Account holders and non-members can order medications independently through the app.

“The patient or customer can log in, and then they can order whatever they need. They need to already be an existing pharmacy customer, and the prescription from the prescription side already needs to be filled out and ready to go,” said John Alvis, the pharmacy manager at Edgewood Walmart.

This came after customers requested a service that allowed them to receive their prescriptions more efficiently in the comfort of their homes.

According to Alvis, the Edgewood community response since the program started earlier this yea has been positive, especially for people unable to commute to the store.

“Company-wide, 55% of our customers had said that was a service that they wanted to see, prescription or pharmacy delivery,” he said.

As for costs, while Walmart app members typically pay a delivery fee, Walmart+ members receive free delivery.

“We’re the only retailer now that’s been able to integrate having prescriptions delivered with your groceries or other general merchandise. Or you can have prescriptions delivered on their own,” Alvis said.

He also mentioned that the app is helpful for users who may need to use the delivery service for prescription medication held at other pharmacies.

Through the app, individuals can make an online request for a prescription transfer to the Edgewood Walmart pharmacy and manage their insurance information through the same app.

Customers are encouraged to call the pharmacy at (505) 286-3053 for personalized assistance if any issues are encountered.
