Free Wi-Fi coming to Coronado and Jemez historic sites
Visitors to Coronado Historic Site in Bernalillo and Jemez Historic Site in Jemez Springs will soon have free public Wi-Fi under a new $460,000 state grant.
Visitors to two Sandoval County landmarks — Coronado Historic Site in Bernalillo and Jemez Historic Site in Jemez Springs — will soon log on for free after the state awarded a $460,000 broadband grant to bring public Wi-Fi to 12 historic sites and museums across New Mexico.
The Office of Broadband Access and Expansion awarded the grant to the Department of Cultural Affairs through its Community Connect Grant Program. The funding will establish 213 new access points across all 12 locations, with the project required to be completed by June 30, 2027.

“Wi-Fi accessibility and convenience in these public places will enhance the experience for anyone visiting,” said Jeff Lopez, OBAE director. “This access will help close the state’s digital divide and help travelers, remote workers and others receive internet service in public places.”
DCA Cabinet Secretary Debra Garcia y Griego called the investment a step toward digital inclusion at sites that “connect communities to our shared heritage.”
The grant is the seventh awarded through the Community Connect program, which draws from the $70 million Connect New Mexico Fund established by the legislature in 2021. Previous recipients include the cities of Las Cruces and Raton and Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell, with prior awards totaling $6.7 million.
