The 528 sits down with Rio Rancho's next mayor — before you vote
Early voting is open now. Before you cast your ballot, hear directly from the two people who want to lead Rio Rancho for the next four years.
Rio Rancho voters are already casting ballots to choose their next mayor — and The 528 sat down exclusively with both candidates to ask what they plan to do with the job.
Early voting runs through Saturday, April 11, ahead of the April 14 runoff election between District 4 City Councilor Paul Wymer and Alexandria Piland, who chaired the Sandoval County Democratic Party before resigning to run. The runoff is needed because neither candidate secured a majority in the March 3 municipal election.
In separate sit-down interviews, Wymer and Piland spoke with The 528 about what Rio Rancho would look like under their leadership. Their answers — and their contrasts — are worth reading before you vote.
Both candidates are in their final financial push heading into Election Day. Piland holds nearly double Wymer’s cash on hand despite trailing in total fundraising, while Wymer has invested heavily in paid media including radio, digital billboards and professional campaign management.
Wymer led the March 3 field with 45% of the vote to Piland’s 27%.
