No fooling: Rio Rancho outdoor watering restrictions take effect April 1
Rio Rancho's annual outdoor watering restrictions are back — here's what you can and can't do this summer.
Rio Rancho residents must follow outdoor watering restrictions starting April 1, through Oct. 31, under the city’s annual water conservation program.
Spray irrigation — including sprinklers and any device that propels water as droplets — is prohibited between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily for all properties within city limits. Hand watering is permitted during those hours.
The city adopted its water conservation ordinance in 2003. Drip irrigation, low-emitting bubblers, dust control and watering of containerized plants are exempt from the restrictions year-round.
Variances are available for irrigation system repairs, newly landscaped areas within 30 days of planting, and single-day chemical applications for existing landscapes.
