The Edgewood Town Commission will meet Thursday evening to discuss posting for a new Town Manager position and consider appointing an interim manager, less than two weeks after Town Manager Nina McCracken resigned following a contentious closed session.
The special meeting, scheduled for 5 p.m. at Edgewood Town Hall Commission Chambers, includes discussion and action on posting for the Town Manager position as the sole item of new business before commissioners enter closed session.
McCracken resigned Oct. 29 after a 90-minute closed session during which the commission discussed her midyear review and other unspecified matters. Two commissioners — Ken Brennan and Patrick Milligan — voted against accepting her resignation.
Brennan called it “sort of a forced resignation” and told the public he believed the action was “wrong,” “immoral” and “could also possibly be unlawful.”
Thursday’s agenda includes two closed session items: a discussion of pending litigation and attorney-client privileged legal advice regarding a settlement offer in Berg et al. v. Town of Edgewood et al., and limited personnel matters related to the Interim Town Manager position.
When commissioners return to regular session, they will consider possible action on the pending litigation, including approval of a settlement agreement, and discuss appointing an Interim Town Manager.
The Berg case details were not immediately available.
McCracken’s resignation came after two lengthy closed sessions in October. Commissioners spent five hours in closed session during their Oct. 14 meeting to discuss “limited personnel matters” involving McCracken. At that meeting, they finalized her midyear review and planned to review her expectations at the subsequent meeting.
Rumors of McCracken’s termination had circulated before the October meetings, with at least one public commenter speaking against her termination during the Oct. 14 meeting.
The commission has scheduled regular meetings for Nov. 12 and Nov. 25.The meeting will be held in person at 171A NM 344 in Edgewood. A YouTube livestream may be available at youtube.com/@thetownofedgewoodnm/streams.
