Jardineros de Placitas, a social and charitable organization serving the Placitas community, received official recognition of its 60th anniversary from the Sandoval County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 22.

The proclamation, sponsored by District 1 Commissioner Katherine A. Bruch, honored the organization’s six decades of service to the greater Placitas area. Bruch, a former three-term president of Jardineros who served from 2015 to 2017, presented the recognition during the commissioners’ meeting.

The honor came as part of the organization’s year-long jubilee celebration, which has featured multiple community events throughout 2025.

In October, the group also received a framed photograph by local artist Dana Patterson Roth from radio station KUPR, recognizing Jardineros’ contribution toward the station’s new transmitter.

“We are very grateful to her and the other Commissioners for this honor,” said Janice Grann, president of Jardineros de Placitas. Both honors will be displayed at the organization’s meeting and during final jubilee year activities.

Jardineros de Placitas defines itself as a social, charitable and benevolent organization that provides members opportunities to meet other residents while promoting community betterment. The group supports local schools and agencies in Sandoval County through monetary donations and volunteer services.

Member activities include donating holiday toys, backpacks with school supplies and coats for elementary and middle school students. Members also create quilts for domestic violence shelters, read with school children and maintain a mile of Highway 165 through cleanup efforts.

The group’s anniversary year continues with several upcoming events, including a “Show Your Stuff” arts and crafts sale held on Wednesday.

Grann will be interviewed on KUPR radio at 8 a.m. Friday to discuss the organization. On Nov. 9, members will tour 505 Spirits Distillery in Mustang Mesa, owned by Anna Jones and Robert Houston.

A Holiday Brunch is scheduled for Dec. 3, which will feature the presentation of the 2025 Outstanding Service Award. The jubilee year concludes Dec. 7 with a dinner dance at Prairie Star Restaurant featuring the Bosque Brothers. Tickets are $75 per person, with a Nov. 17 deadline.

Membership in Jardineros de Placitas is open to any Placitas resident. Annual dues are $75, with a Nov. 15 deadline for inclusion in the 2026 yearbook. The organization meets at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church.
