Bernalillo County Fire & Rescue will welcome trick-or-treaters at all 14 fire stations Friday evening as part of its annual “Operation Boo” initiative.

Firefighters will distribute candy from 5 to 8 p.m. while supplies last at stations throughout the county’s north, east and south regions.

“We love seeing the excitement on kids’ faces when they stop by the station,” Fire Chief Zach Lardy said in a press release. “Operation Boo is a simple way for us to give back and remind families that our doors are always open — especially on a fun night like Halloween.”

The four east stations participating in the event are:

Station 40 – 48 Public School Rd., Tijeras, 87059

Station 41 – 10838 Highway 337, Tijeras, 87059

Station 43 – 4 Dressage Rd., Tijeras, 87059

Station 46 – 25 Frost Rd., Sandia Park, 87047

Five stations in the northern area and five in southern Bernalillo County will also participate.

The Fire Prevention Bureau issued safety recommendations for Halloween activities, including selecting costumes made from fire-retardant materials, having children carry flashlights, and ensuring adult supervision when lighting jack-o-lanterns. Officials also advised adults to accompany young children while trick-or-treating and inspect candy before consumption.
