The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday to consider establishing a task force on speeding and approve several budget resolutions at its administrative meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Ken Sanchez Commission Chambers, 415 Silver Ave. SW.

Among the key items on the agenda is a proposed resolution to create a task force to study what commissioners are calling “the epidemic of speeding in Bernalillo County” and recommend solutions. Commissioners Frank Baca and Walt Benson are sponsoring the measure.

The board will also consider multiple property nuisance abatement resolutions for locations including 133 Barcelona Circle SW and several properties on Sheldon Street SE.

In budget matters, commissioners will vote on the first-quarter fiscal year 2026 budget reconciliation, including accepting more than $1 million in additional funding for the Fire Protection Fund and over $1.1 million for Youth Services Center, Fire and Metropolitan Detention Center recruitment efforts.

The board will also consider legislative priorities for the 2026 New Mexico legislative session, including support for New Mexico Counties’ House Bill 2 priorities.

During the public comment period, University of New Mexico Hospital CEO Kate Becker will present the hospital’s first quarter FY26 report, and the Behavioral Health Authority Division will provide an update on opioid settlement funding projects.

Commissioner Walt Benson will present recognition for Albuquerque Public Schools students whose artwork was selected for the 2025 “I Voted” stickers.

Public comment: Those wishing to speak must sign up at www.bernco.gov/boards-commissions/speak-at-a-meeting. Written comments can also be submitted through the same website and will be distributed to all commissioners.

In-person and virtual speakers will be heard on a first-come, first-served basis. Each participant has two minutes to speak. Remote participants who sign up will receive a Zoom link via email one hour before the meeting begins.
