The East Mountain Food Pantry has launched its annual Holiday Food Program, aiming to raise $20,000 to provide gift cards to 800 families during the holiday season.
The 501(c)(3) organization plans to distribute $25 food-only gift cards to families in need, departing from its traditional food drive approach due to limited storage space.
“We want every family to have food for their traditional holiday celebrations,” organizers wrote in campaign materials. “Unfortunately, our food storage space is limited.”
Last year, the food pantry provided $15 gift cards to 660 families. Any additional funds raised beyond the gift card goal will be used to purchase food for regular distribution, according to the organization.
The need for food assistance in the East Mountain community has grown significantly over the past 36 years. In 2024, the food pantry provided more than 7,800 food services to 4,325 individuals. The organization reports serving record numbers of families each month, with particular growth among seniors and children.
“In 36 years of operation, the number of EMFP clients has grown enormously, particularly with seniors and children,” the organization stated.
