The East Mountain Historical Society has released new publications celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66’s establishment in New Mexico in 1926.
Author Rick Holben’s book, “A History of the Highway Between Albuquerque and Santa Rosa — and how it became U.S. Highway 66,” chronicles the 118-mile stretch that evolved from trails and roads into part of the iconic highway and eventually Interstate 40.
The 50-page softcover book features historic photographs and postcards documenting the route through east Albuquerque to Santa Rosa. The publication sells for $25, with shipping available for $5.
The historical society also released a 2026 calendar marking the Route 66 centennial. The 26-page spiral-bound calendar includes full-color images of the highway between Albuquerque and Santa Rosa and retails for $15, plus $5 shipping.
A combo set including the book, calendar and six postcards is available for $40, plus $7.50 shipping.
Proceeds from sales support the organization’s historical preservation activities.
The publications are available at the society’s online store at www.eastmountainhistory.org/store and at local retailers including Lantern Ridge Farm Market in Sandia Park, Acorn Flowers and Gifts in Cedar Crest, Brandy’s Hair Design in Tijeras, Roots Farm Cafe in Tijeras, Henderson Store in Golden and Organic Books in Albuquerque.
