Bernalillo County announced the return of Green Waste Days, offering East Mountain residents free disposal of yard debris from Oct. 25 through Nov. 9 at the East Mountain Transfer Station.
The program, aimed at helping property owners reduce wildfire risk, allows residents to drop off green waste at no charge at the transfer station located at 711 Highway 333 in Tijeras. Drop-off hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily during the event period.
County officials encourage landowners to use the opportunity to thin their properties and reduce the overall density of surrounding forest areas. The program accepts various types of green waste, including leaves, dead branches, brush and other organic yard materials that can serve as “ladder fuels” during wildfire season.
Residents are advised to sweep roofs and clean gutters before bringing materials to the transfer station. All loads must be covered during transport.
The Green Waste Days program is presented by Bernalillo County, the County Commission, the East Mountain Soil & Water Conservation District and the New Mexico Association of Counties.
