A woman was arrested early Wednesday on domestic violence charges after an incident involving a partner at a Moriarty residence.
The Torrance County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on Coyote Loop around 12:23 a.m. on Oct. 8, 2025, for a domestic violence report. A deputy filed a criminal complaint that alleges the accused individual assaulted her partner, who is identified in the complaint as a household member.
The charges filed in Torrance County Magistrate Court include a third-degree felony of aggravated battery against a household member by strangulation or suffocation. The complaint also includes two fourth-degree felony counts of aggravated assault against a household member with a deadly weapon.
According to the probable cause statement, the partner told police the disagreement began the previous day, on Oct. 7, over alleged drinking.
The partner told deputies that the accused person woke them up while arguing, then grabbed his throat with one hand and squeezed. The partner was able to get away and went to the kitchen, where the accused person allegedly followed and chased them around the kitchen island and dining table while holding a kitchen knife and threatening to stab him.
The complaint further alleges the accused person grabbed a shotgun from the wall, pointed it at the partner’s chest, and had a finger on the trigger. After the partner got the shotgun away, the accused returned with a different knife and advanced toward the partner. The partner tried to get the knife by grabbing the person’s arm, pleading with them to drop the weapon. The accused then tried to hit the partner with a wooden pepper grinder, which hit the counter.
Deputies observed dining room chairs out of place and a sofa chair flipped over at the scene. A large, 14-inch kitchen knife was found under the dining room table, and a 10-inch knife was on the kitchen island. Both the accused and the partner declined medical attention and did not appear to have injuries.
A deputy stated in the complaint that a Deputy District Attorney telephonically approved the charges on Oct. 8. The deputy stated that based on the evidence provided, there was enough probable cause for the third-degree felony charge of aggravated battery by strangulation, and the two fourth-degree felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (shotgun and knife).
