The Town of Edgewood will begin a major road construction project on West Venus Road starting Wednesday, with work expected to continue through Dec. 20.

The hot mix asphalt paving project will involve traffic control measures and intermittent road closures along the affected stretch, town officials said. Edgewood Middle School will remain accessible during construction, though delays are possible.

The project represents the culmination of a two-year process involving funding acquisition, planning and contractor scheduling, according to the town. Officials noted the work is grant-funded.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during construction. The town recommends using Horton Road to access western West Venus Road, or taking Hermosa Montano and Serrania roads to reach Romo.

Town officials emphasized that hot mix asphalt differs from chipseal paving, noting it is less dependent on weather conditions but costs significantly more to complete.

Traffic fines will be doubled in the construction zone, according to the Edgewood Police Department.

The project aims to improve road conditions on West Venus Road, which serves as a key thoroughfare for the community east of Albuquerque.

  1. West Martinez Rd A099 that leads west of Lexco Rd between Edgewood and Moriarty south of old route 66 are pockmarked with dozens of potholes over very old asphalt … Looks like 4x4s are burning rubber to make the potholes ….potholes dont affect 4x4s as much as passenger cars or AWDs….. because of thick tires with 4x4s..
It is long overdue for a new paving over!
I had been volunteering with filling the worst potholes with rocks dug out from the shoulders of that road and fill it in with dirt thrown on top of it… it works… it is hard for 4x4s to spin dig it out becuas of rocks mixed with dirt… 4x4s are making new potholes faster than i can fix them permanently.

I am not even paid…. I am a retiree… I am sick and tired of those potholes and it is the responsiblilty of Torrance County though.
