The Town of Mountainair will begin micro-sealing work on three streets within the next two weeks, with construction potentially starting as early as next week, Mayor Peter Nieto announced in a social media post.
The project will resurface Sunset Avenue from Beal Street to Third Street, Cedardale Avenue from Highway 60 to Main Street, and Third Street from Highway 60 to Highway 55.
Residents are advised to avoid the construction areas while work is underway. Those living on affected streets should follow directions from workers for property access, Nieto said.
The mayor described the project as a “major improvement” that will create stronger, longer-lasting streets by resurfacing curb-to-curb rather than partial repairs done in previous decades.
“For decades, many streets were only partially redone,” Nieto said. “This time, thanks to curbs already in place, they will be going curb-to-curb to ensure stronger, longer-lasting streets.”
The comprehensive approach addresses areas that previously remained unpaved, which Nieto said contributed to edge deterioration. Public Works crews have cleared two to four feet of dirt on each side of the streets in preparation for the full-width resurfacing.
Questions about the project can be directed to Town Hall at 505-847-2321, where staff will connect callers with Nieto or Public Works Supervisor Carl Archuleta.
In his announcement, Nieto thanked the Public Works team, Archuleta and the Mountainair Town Council for their work on the project.
