A Canadian steel processing company is eyeing Las Cruces as the location for its first U.S. manufacturing facility, a project that could bring 40 jobs and more than $50 million in economic impact to New Mexico.

Endurance Technologies Inc., a Calgary-based company that has served oil and gas, agriculture, mining and industrial sectors for more than 30 years, has narrowed its multistate search to Las Cruces as a candidate, according to company officials.

“We began our expansion search with multiple facilities located over multiple states and have pored over measurable business metrics that have created a short list of prospects,” Jeff Pitura, president and CEO of Endurance Technologies Inc, said in a press release.

The company expects to hire approximately 40 employees within five years at wages above the county average, Pitura said. ETI projects investing more than $11 million in the first three years, with total capital expenditures exceeding $18 million and estimated economic output surpassing $50 million.

The proposed facility would occupy a vacant 45,050-square-foot building on about 15 acres in Las Cruces’ Innovation & Industrial Park, city officials said.

“Building this facility in Las Cruces would represent a clear vote of confidence in New Mexico’s future,” said Rob Black, cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Economic Development Department.

Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez said the investment would align with the city’s vision for economic growth while revitalizing vacant property.

The site selection process has taken several months and considered factors including logistics, workforce availability, utilities and economic incentives, according to Gregg Wassmansdorf, senior managing director of Global Strategy for Newmark, which is assisting with the search.

Local partners, including the City of Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance, have collaborated to advance New Mexico’s candidacy.

“We are proud to be among the final locations under consideration,” said Davin Lopez, president and CEO of MVEDA.

The company has not announced a final decision timeline.
