Eighty-three percent of Edgewood residents rate their community’s quality of life as excellent or good, according to a comprehensive survey released in the town’s fiscal year 2025 annual report.

The survey results were part of a 15-month public input process for updating the town’s comprehensive plan, which was adopted by the governing body in January 2025.

The community survey, conducted from November 2023 through February 2024, also revealed areas residents believe need improvement. Eighty-three percent of respondents said the town’s appearance needs enhancement, with nuisance properties cited by 61% of residents, commercial corridors by 46%, and roadside debris by 45%.

“Create a sense of community character/identity unique to Edgewood” topped the list of key community goals identified through the planning process, according to the report.

Residents’ most requested services included restaurants (70%), urgent care (59%) and entertainment (57%). The most requested facilities were a community center (57%), recreation center (56%) and wellness/fitness center (52%).

Water availability (59%) and infrastructure (57%) were identified as the primary obstacles to economic development, the survey found.

During fiscal year 2025, the town implemented several major infrastructure projects, including paving 1.5 miles of roads and completing the Huston Memorial Bridge over Bachelor Draw. The town also expanded staffing significantly, adding positions including a Community Development Director, Grants Coordinator, IT Specialist and School Resource Officer.

The Edgewood Police Department processed 678 public records requests during the year and made 471 arrests, while the Animal Shelter achieved “No Kill Shelter” status with a 90% or above adoption rate.

Town finances showed improvement, with accounts payable caught up and maintaining a two-to-three week turnaround average, according to the report. The town completed $2.23 million in grant-funded project reimbursements from $6.27 million in total grant funds allocated for town projects.

Looking ahead, the town has outlined long-term goals including pursuing water security through establishing a water utility, continued road improvements and planning for parks and open space development. The town is also preparing for Route 66’s centennial celebration in 2026 with year-long events and activities.
