A 24-year-old man was arrested in late July on charges including criminal sexual penetration of a minor following an investigation into an incident at an elementary school, Edgewood police said.

The Edgewood Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division arrested the suspect on one count each of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The investigation began July 8 when the mother of a juvenile victim reported to police that her daughter had disclosed sexual contact with the man, according to an arrest affidavit filed in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

The victim told investigators that she and the suspect had broken into Edgewood Elementary School several days prior to engage in sexual activity, the affidavit states.

Police responded to the school and found evidence consistent with the victim’s account, including what appeared to be bodily fluids that were collected for DNA testing, according to court documents.

The suspect was processed through the Santa Fe County jail system. Court records show the case was assigned to the Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.
