Edgewood residents can access free vaccinations Thursday at a community clinic.
First Choice Community Health Care will host a “Got Shots” vaccination clinic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at its Edgewood center, 7 Municipal Way.
The clinic represents a partnership between multiple New Mexico healthcare organizations, including the New Mexico Primary Care Association, Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, Presbyterian Health Plan, Molina Healthcare and the New Mexico Pediatric Society.
First Choice Community Healthcare is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, community-based health center system that provides access to quality, patient-centered, comprehensive healthcare to all people who need it, regardless of ability to pay, according to the organization’s website. The healthcare system operates nine health centers in three counties (Bernalillo, Valencia & Santa Fe).
The promotional materials for the event emphasize vaccination as a tool for disease prevention, particularly as students prepare to go back to school. The clinic is promoted through the state’s VaccineNM.org initiative, which is affiliated with the New Mexico Department of Health’s immunization tracking system.
