A suspect is in custody after shots were fired during a fight in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant on State Road 344 Sunday night, according to the Edgewood Police Department.
The shooting occurred at approximately 5 p.m. at the McDonald’s located at 2A SR 344, one of the main commercial locations along the highway that runs through Edgewood. No one was injured in the incident, and police said charges against the suspect are currently pending.
According to a press release from the Edgewood Police Department, officers responded to reports of a physical fight and shots being fired at the restaurant. Police located the suspect south of Edgewood and took him into custody without incident. The firearm was recovered at a different location and collected as evidence.
The incident stands out in a community where violent crime occurs significantly less frequently than the national average. Edgewood’s violent crime rate of 261 per 100,000 residents is 29.4% lower than the national average, and crimes typically occur about once every 21 hours in the town of approximately 6,000 residents.
