Torrance County residents will have the opportunity to meet their local first responders during National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Torrance County Fairgrounds in Estancia.

The Moriarty Fire Department announced it will join several other entities from across Torrance County for the community safety event, which will feature games, vendors and opportunities to interact with emergency personnel.

National Night Out is an annual nationwide community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to create safer neighborhoods. The event has grown from 2.5 million participants in 400 communities during its 1984 debut to 38 million residents in 16,000 communities participating nationwide.

For Torrance County residents, the event provides a chance to meet the first responders who serve their communities daily. The Moriarty Fire Department operates with 4 full-time, 3 part-time firefighters, and 29 volunteers, responding to over 1,000 calls for service annually, with 75% being medical emergencies.

The department’s medical response team includes 17 EMT Basics, 7 EMT Intermediates, and 6 Paramedics who work alongside other county agencies coordinated through Torrance County 911 Dispatch, which handles emergency calls 24 hours a day across the county.

The Torrance County Fairgrounds is located at 701 10th Street in Estancia. The event is free and open to all county residents.
