Bernalillo County residents will have a chance to help shape the future of the local economy through a series of public meetings designed to gather input on economic development in the community.

The county launched its Community Dialogue series on June 17 at the South Valley Multipurpose Senior Center.

The meeting focused on community benefits and sustainability.

The event is the first in a five-part series hosted by the county’s Economic Development Department with support from a steering committee formed earlier this year.

The nine-member committee—comprised of representatives from local businesses, industries and community organizations—was established by the Board of County Commissioners in March to guide long-term development strategies.

The group is expected to deliver its recommendations to the board in October.

“We want to hear what our friends and neighbors believe is important as far as

economic development,” says Bernalillo County Executive Development Officer

Marcos Gonzales. “We will use your comments to inform our Economic

Development Department’s future strategies and programming. We appreciate

your time and being part of this conversation.”

Each meeting in the series will highlight a different topic of interest. Residents are invited to attend any or all sessions.

The meetings will include light refreshments served 30 minutes before start time, Spanish translation services and a Mobile Rec Unit to keep children entertained.
