The Village of Corrales is moving forward on two grant-funded projects aimed at enhancing public safety and recreational space.

The first grant will support the development of Salce Park, a planned open space designed to provide low-maintenance recreation opportunities for residents. While the Village has already been awarded funding for the project, final approval is pending as the grant team awaits additional information before formalizing the agreement and launching the design phase.

The Salce Park plan includes exercise trails, seating areas with mountain views, designated horse parking, and a 2.6-acre pond to aid in drainage management. The project is being proposed under a phased 50% matching grant, meaning the Village will match half of the funding over time as construction progresses.

Meanwhile, another federal grant, the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) initiative, is gaining momentum after being awarded last year. This grant is aimed at improving safety for bicyclists, pedestrians, and equestrians traveling through the Village. Work under this program will focus on identifying infrastructure needs and safety improvements using existing Village property and rights-of-way.

“Both of these grants will utilize Village property or right of way to improve the lives of Corrales citizens,” Corrales Mayor Jim Fahey said.
