The Bernalillo County Commission will consider adopting a resolution declaring support for the U.S. Congress amid nationwide concerns about the growing power of the executive branch.
Chair Eric Olivas and Vice Chair Adriann Barboa are scheduled to introduce the resolution during the County Commission meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The draft resolution lists actions that President Donald Trump’s administration has taken that it states are “unconstitutional consolidation of power.” Those actions include revoking birthright citizenship, freezing funds that were allocated through Congressional bills, closing federal agencies and threatening to deport or prosecute people based on political views.
The draft resolution further highlights that the New Mexico Department of Justice has filed lawsuits against “specific Executive Orders and willful misdeeds.”
The resolution comes on the back of nationwide protests, including several “No Kings” protests in New Mexico.
The Bernalillo County Commission meets in the Ken Sanchez Commission Chambers located at 415 Silver Ave. SW in Albuquerque.
