A public town hall meeting is set to address growing community safety concerns along NM-528, a vital and often dangerous corridor in Rio Rancho.
The event will take place on June 24 at 6 p.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, located at 2309 Monterrey Rd NE in Rio Rancho.
Representative Alan Martinez will join New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Secretary Ricky Serna, Deputy Secretary Mo Moabed, and Executive Director Jerry Valdez to hear directly from residents and discuss potential solutions to improve traffic safety in the area.
Community members have raised concerns following several fatal crashes on NM-528. The town hall aims to provide a forum for direct dialogue with decision-makers.
“I’ve been talking to the Department of Transportation for a couple of years now, and I think it’s important that we all listen to what the community has to say about it, that way we all can come up with solutions that are good for everybody,” Martinez said.
The meeting is an opportunity for constructive conversation and collaboration, not criticism.
“This is a chance for us to all get together and hold a conversation about solutions,” Martinez said. “You learn a lot more when you listen.”
Martinez also mentioned potential solutions, such as lowering the speed limit and installing flashing warning lights at intersections.
NM-528 is a state road, making this a state issue.
The public is encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.
