In an email to supporters, Albuquerque mayoral candidate and former U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico Alex Uballez urged participation in the “No Kings” rally scheduled for this Saturday.
Uballez connected his call to action with his own experiences with what he described as President Donald Trump’s “abuse of power,” referencing his dismissal from the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Uballez said that the President is using tactics in Los Angeles to “provoke protest” and then “commandeer state emergency resources to establish martial law.”
He said that the real issue is protecting families, communities and constitutional rights against military rule.
“The President wants us to fight among ourselves about politics, while what is at stake is keeping families together, communities intact, and more deeply our constitutional right to not live under military rule,” Uballez said. “That is why I’m deeply heartened by the show of unity and protests against the raids and for democracy being planned in so many places across the country this weekend.”
Uballez also highlighted his record as New Mexico’s U.S. Attorney, listing achievements such as converting to a digital file system, creating programs for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, establishing a federal reentry court and conducting major drug seizures and investigations. He stated that despite these accomplishments, he was dismissed by the President via social media.
“I wasn’t surprised when Donald Trump announced my dismissal on social media,” Uballez said. “I’d seen that type of move before. In my investigations, I saw crime bosses demand absolute loyalty in pursuit of their own profit. And we built big cases against cartel leaders with the help of brave people who refused to go along with cruelty, who said no, and who took risks to join what I used to call “Team America,” who put their lives on the line to make things better for all of us.”
Uballez ended his message by inviting supporters to join him at the Saturday rally and his campaign for Albuquerque.
“That’s what I see being planned on Saturday with the “No Kings” rallies. Brave people standing up together is why—despite the news we’re seeing—I’m optimistic about our future,” Uballez said. “That’s why I’m running for Mayor.”
This man wants to be Albuquerque’s mayor? He allowed dangerous illegal alien drug traffickers subject to minimum mandatory sentences to get off with probation. He allowed dangerous firearm violators subject to serious sentencing penalties to get off with probation. He dismantle the highly effective and successful DEA drug interdiction program. He’s another Tim Keller but with the governor’s support.
