The Rio Rancho City Council is set to meet Thursday with a packed agenda that spans infrastructure, public safety and community standards.

A public hearing is on the agenda for the proposed site plan for a new Automotive Technology Building in the Corrales North Business Tech Center. Councilors will review renderings, civil plan, and zoning information before considering approval for the project, which could add a key educational and workforce training facility to the city.

On the legislative front, the council will hold first readings on two ordinances. The first would update Chapter 97 of the municipal code governing alarm systems, aiming to reduce false alarms and modernize response policies. The second would amend Chapter 155 on subdivisions, covering everything from general provisions and platting to design standards and enforcement procedures.

Budget considerations will also be front and center. Several resolutions propose adjustments across multiple funds, including the General Fund, Fire Fund and Capital Appropriations. Among them is a resolution to accept a state grant amendment from the New Mexico Department of Transportation for intersection improvements at Idalia Road and Loma Colorado Boulevard.

Additionally, the council will consider a resolution targeting blighted property at 1873 Blackberry Road, potentially ordering the cleanup or demolition of structures deemed hazardous.

The meeting will be held in person and virtually, starting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Council Chambers. It will also be streamed live at rrnm.gov. Public comment is welcome both online and in person with prior registration.
