Mountainair Mayor Peter Nieto announced through social media that important road work is set to begin in July.

The town of Mountainair is scheduled for significant road improvements and local investment to enhance transportation routes and public safety.

This comes following the Mountainair Town Council’s approval to micro-seal three key sections of town roads.

The scheduled improvements will focus on:

  • Sunset Avenue between Beal Street and Third Street
  • Third Street between Highway 55 and Highway 60
  • Cedardale Avenue between Main Street and Highway 60

“I’m truly excited to see this work get underway and look forward to continuing efforts to improve even more roads throughout the community,” Nieto said.

The mayor also extended his gratitude to Public Works Supervisor Carl Archuleta for helping advance the project.

Although a proposed $1.8 million in federal funding for local road improvements, backed earlier this year by Senator Martin Heinrich’s office, was not approved, the town is pushing forward with a renewed funding request. Mayor Nieto remains optimistic about future approval that could help expand infrastructure repairs.

“We still have a lot of work ahead, but this is a great step in the right direction. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, and I’m looking forward to getting even more done,” Nieto added.
