A mid-April snowstorm put a damper on Easter celebrations in the East Mountains, but the Town of Edgewood says the Easter Egg hunt has been rescheduled.
While the Bunny Hop Run/Walk still took place as planned on April 19, the Easter Egg hunt was postponed due to the weather conditions.
“Normally, it rains on your parade, but it snowed on our Easter egg hunt,” Town Manager Nina McCracken said during a Town Commission meeting this week.
The Town now plans to host the Easter Egg hunt at 10 a.m., May 3 at Venus Park, 181 New Mexico Highway 344, followed by the Arbor Day celebration from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Commissioner Filandro Anaya said it was unfortunate that the weather caused the Easter Egg hunt to be rescheduled.
“We all know what happened with the weather, and unfortunately, we didn’t have the kiddos out there chasing after the eggs,” he said.
At the same time, Anaya said the storm brought needed moisture to the community.
McCracken said the town’s Parks and Recreation Department’s director waited until the conditions at the park appeared unsafe before he called off the annual egg hunt.
“We do still want to do the egg hunt for the kids,” she said.
The town chose May 3 to avoid conflicts with the City of Moriarty’s Easter egg hunt, which was also rescheduled due to the snowstorm and will now be taking place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Moriarty City Park, 201 Broadway St.
