According to the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, the unemployment rate in New Mexico was 4.4% in February, the same as January.
Nationwide, the unemployment rate sat at 4.1% in February, up from 4% in January.
The state gained 13,800 non-agricultural jobs between February 2024 and February of this year, with the majority coming from the private sector; 11,800 additional jobs compared to 2,000 from the public sector.
The construction industry gained an additional 7,200 jobs, while manufacturing increased 600 jobs, with 400 in durable good manufacturing. The mining industry lost 200 jobs in the last year.
While state government had an increase of 1,900 jobs, the federal government lost 800 jobs from the previous year.
While the unemployment rate in New Mexico remained unchanged from January, it was an increase from 3.8% in February of 2024.
