To the Editor:
I’m writing to raise a concern that I suspect many of my fellow Edgewood residents quietly share: the increasingly unreliable state of our mail service. Since a new carrier began handling my route in August of last year, I have experienced consistent misdelivery of both mail and packages—including tax documents, personal letters, and parcels of substantial financial and sentimental value. To date, I’ve lost ten packages.
My neighborhood uses a secure cluster box, so theft from my property is not the issue. Time and again, my neighbors and I receive each other’s mail or find that items simply disappear. Despite repeated reports to the local post office and direct conversations with the postmaster (who acknowledges the problem), service continues to decline. Promised improvements have not materialized, and no accountability seems to follow.
This is not a trivial inconvenience—it’s a failure of a basic public service. It damages trust and imposes real costs, especially in rural communities like ours, where timely mail delivery remains essential for medicine, official documents, and remote work.
I have filed formal complaints with the Postal Regulatory Commission and am contacting federal and state authorities. But I write here because I believe this is also a local issue. If others are experiencing similar problems, I encourage you to speak up. Public pressure may be the only way to secure the reliable service our community deserves.
Sincerely,
Hunter McClure
