Charlie Overbey and Vanessa Dingwell, founders of Lone Hawk Hats & Honeywood Vintage in Madrid, launched a social media auction to benefit the Sweet Relief Natural Disaster Fund.

The fundraiser will benefit those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.

The auction features signed hats from celebrities like singer/songwriter LP, Blackberry Smoke frontman Charlie Starr, and actors Cree Summer, Dan Stevens and Josh Holloway.

The auction began on March 15 and details can be found on the @lonehawkhats Instagram feed and at sweetrelief.org.

Starr donated one of his very first Lone Hawk Hats for the first auction which brought in over $3,000.

“It’s always something special when the hat you’re wearing (for a project or charity) is as cool as the actual hat you’re wearing,” Actor Josh Holloway said during the initial fundraising auction.

Gaby Acosta, Co-Costume Designer for TV dramas 1883 and 1923, also is involved with the project, with a signed copy of the hat made for Harrison Ford’s character Jacob Dutton in season 2 of 1923 being auctioned for the charity.

Overbey and Dingwell have a history of fundraising, having raised over $100,000 for Navajo Nation Covid Relief in 2020. Overbey, who has been making hats by hand since 1993, has created specialty pieces for artists like Sheryl Crow and Chris Robinson and designed hats for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Replicas of these hats are now being auctioned to support fire-impacted families.

Lone Hawk Hats is the creation of Overbey, a Southern California native and long-time lover of hats. He started reshaping and restyling vintage hats during his early days on the Sunset Strip. He founded Lone Hawk Hats in 2016 and now has Madrid and Los Angeles locations.

Now based in Madrid, over 800 miles from Los Angeles, Overbey wants to help those who may struggle to rebuild. So far, they’ve raised over $6,000.
