The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) will host an educational conference in Albuquerque on March 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown as part of its National Educating America Tour.

The event intends for local experts to provide New Mexico residents with the proper information and tools to navigate Alzheimer’s treatment.

AFA’s Educating America Tour is a series of free educational conferences nationwide in different communities that facilitate donations, sponsorships and professional training through the organization.

Top local experts in medicine, dementia care, aging, and neurology will discuss medicine, dementia care and neurology, including a New Mexico Department of Aging speaker.

“This event will greatly benefit many local families, especially those impacted by dementia. In fact, the information they get at these conferences is often described as life-changing,” Media Relations Manager Sandy Silverstein said. “Attendees will learn everything from caregiver strategies to healthy aging tips, how to safeguard your home, long-term care planning, early detection, local resource and more.”

A Q&A session will follow each session, allowing attendees to speak directly with local and national professionals.

The Educating America Tour has a schedule with dates in February-November.

The AFA also provides other educational resources, such as:

  • The AFA Helpline
  • Alzheimer’s & Dementia Facts & Tips
  • Support Groups, Webinars for dementia caregivers and professionals
  • The Alzheimer’s & Dementia Online Academy

AFA also offers professional training and education. This includes workshops and training, along with professional certifications.

The event is free, and memory screenings during the three-hour event will be offered at no cost. An online memory test and screening program, which includes virtual screenings, is also available.
