At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Bernalillo County Commission approved construction to rebuild the Los Vecinos Community Center Skate Park. Chair Eric Olivas sponsored the initiative, which was funded through the county’s general funds.

This project aims to replace the current modular metal skate park with a new poured-in-place skate park closer to the community center on the north edge of the site. Completion is expected by the Fall. This will be the first and only poured skate park in the East Mountain area.

The new skate park is just one of many upgrades currently underway at Los Vecinos,” Olivas said. “This community center hosts a variety of activities for all ages and a new skate park will enhance the safety and the experience for beginners and seasoned skateboarders.”

Additional renovations currently underway include replacing the outdated soccer field, playground, shade structures, drainage facilities, lighting fixtures, irrigation system, a basketball court that includes a multi-use court for pickleball play, a new stage and other amenities to support special events.
