The Bernalillo Town Council set a record for efficiency, wrapping up its meeting in just under nine minutes. The single agenda item was the council’s approval of the Open Meetings Act resolution for the new year.
The council approved the resolution to uphold the New Mexico Open Meetings Act and ensure transparency in local government. The act establishes annual rules for public meeting notifications, schedules and procedures.
Bernalillo’s regular council meetings will continue to be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m., with agendas posted in advance. Special meetings require at least three days’ notice, while emergency meetings need 24 hours’ notice unless an extreme emergency arises. Closed sessions are allowed only for specific legal reasons and must adhere to strict reporting requirements. The resolution also allows remote participation for council members and ensures public access through live streaming or call-in options.
Police Chief Chris Stoyell informed the council about the westward-facing Flock camera recently installed on Avenida Bernalillo. The camera is now active and providing information to the police department.
Stoyell added that speed message signs will be installed in February on Camino del Pueblo (NM 313) near the church, facing traffic in both directions.
