The Rio Rancho Motor Vehicle Office will be shutting its doors permanently Dec. 27. The last day to schedule an appointment for service online or by phone (505-891-5014) is Dec. 20.
The City of Rio Rancho local government has operated this office, located at 4114 Sabana Grande Ave. SE, for many years on behalf of the State of New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department – New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) through a contract agreement to carry out the State’s motor vehicle functions.
According to the City of Rio Rancho, the closure comes after several contributing factors. Revenue from service fees haven’t been sufficient to cover operating costs, and the overall use of the office has declined significantly. Additionally, with staff retirements, a rise in online services offered by the state and the presence of other nearby options for motor vehicle needs, the decision was made to close the physical location.
Residents can still access a variety of motor vehicle services through the State of New Mexico MVD website: https://www.mvd.newmexico.gov/
For in-person services, several alternatives are available:
